For our first full day in O’ahu, we wanted to get familiarized with the island without worrying about driving or where to go first. So we booked the “Oahu Grand Circle Island Tour” with Roberts Hawaii. Our ride was comfortable and the bus driver/tour guide was quite entertaining; he delivered puns and one liners with deadly accuracy and timing.

Hanauma Bay Point Lookout

Hanauma Bay Point Lookout; a lookout overlooking errrrr, Hanauma Bay.

A view of Hanauma Bay from the Lookout.
A beautiful view.

Hālona Blowhole

A beautiful sight to behold; the lava formed seacliffs of Halona Blowhole. Unfortunately, it didn’t blow at the time of our visit… which sucked to be quite honest.

Views on top of views.

Lunchtime at the Coral Kingdom

Our next stop took us to the Coral Kingdom. A roadside restaurant/souvenir shop hybrid. Their Huli-huli Chicken and Egg fried Mahi-mahi were surprisingly good. Trust me, we came back for seconds.

Macadamia Nut Farm

A nice roaside stop  to buy souvenirs to bring back home. If nothing else, stop by for the free coffee and macadamia samples.

North Shore Beaches

The waves were calm at the time of year (July-August) we went. Perfect for swimming but not so much for surfing.

What to wear in Oahu

  • It will be too hot for anything long sleeve. Bring short sleeve or sleeveless shirts in lightweight materials. I wore a long sleeve Oxford shirt upon arrival to Hawai’i and I was sweating bullets!. I must have lost 10 pounds that day.
  • Mark is wearing a polo and summer-weight chino pants (similar) from J. Crew Factory. Shoes, not pictured, are beach-ready Sperry for J. Crew boat shoes.
  • Manet is wearing a breathable romper from Shoes are the Jutti Flat from
  • Bring interchangeable clothing in neutral colors so that you can maximize your outfit possibilities. Something like red will be much more difficult to integrate into a full outfit than white, gray, or navy.
Coconut Juice aka Buko Juice
Chinaman’s Hat; known locally as Mokolii

Dole Plantation

The last stop of the tour. We came here for one thing and one thing only: the dairy-free pineapple ice cream. Now I don’t know what kind of voodoo or black magic they did to make this thing so creamy without any milk; but it is one of the creamiest and best tasting ice cream you will ever taste and I’m not the biggest fan of pineapple.

Already thinking of the next destination. What is she pointing at? 🙂
